We removed the steel picture window. See the video entitled How to Remove a Metal Frame Window.
We framed in the opening with 2 x 4s. Watch How to Build a Window Frame to Replace a Picture Window to see that.
We installed the windows on the video called How to Install Replacement Windows in New Framing.
Now we will insulate the windows. It's really pretty simple. Hope you enjoy.

How to Insulate a New Vinyl Window
Hello, this is Dennis with Home Rehab Pros. I hope everyone is okay. Today, we're going to tackle a task that just about any of us could do on our own. We're replacing some vinyl windows. In fact, you may have watched our videos where we tore out a steel picture window and framed it with two-by-fours. We installed the new openings and put in two double-hung windows. Now, we're going to insulate them.
In our next video, we'll demonstrate how we trim them. Right now, I'm going to take the time while Jason is at the store getting the PVC trim that we want. I'm going to insulate these windows. So, if you have a project like this, go ahead and do it. Let's muster up the courage and do it together.
If you have any comments about our approach, we'd really enjoy hearing from you. We can learn from you, probably more than you can learn from us. So, let's get started. Let's watch as I insulate these two replacement windows.
Insulation: Alright, while Jason is off getting the trim, we're going to use PVC or Azek trim for the outside and inside. It's paintable and provides a nice finish for these windows. So, it's a complete vinyl unit. That way, it's weatherproof, rot-resistant, and durable.
While he's gone, I'm going to insulate. A couple of things I'll do: First, I'll put on this mask to protect my lungs from fiberglass. I'll also wear glasses for eye protection. Now, I'll put on gloves to prevent fiberglass from getting on my skin. These gloves are cut-resistant and will protect my hands when using a blade.
I have some insulation strips here. I want to make sure these windows are well-insulated. I'll start by cutting a strip in half using a one-inch putty knife. I'll tuck it into the frame, making sure there are no gaps. I want to ensure the windows are properly insulated without compressing the insulation.
Now, I'll take another piece and do the same on the other side. I'll make sure to insulate any gaps between the wood and the wall. This ensures a snug fit.
I'll continue using more strips to insulate thoroughly. I'll check for any gaps where I can see daylight and insulate those areas as well.
Now, you might wonder why I'm not using spray foam insulation. Well, spray foam tends to expand and could put pressure on the vinyl windows. Fiberglass insulation, in this case, is a better choice as it insulates well without causing structural issues.
Insulating takes time and patience. You have to be thorough to ensure there are no gaps. Check for daylight and seal off any openings.
Outro: Thanks for watching. I encourage you to take on a project like this yourself. If you have any questions, please let us know. Don't forget to like and subscribe if you haven't already. We'll see you in the next video.
